Hi everyone!!! So sorry that I haven’t posted in a while, work has been hectic. And now it is snowing in Northern Virginia…and my 997 is out in the parking lot, it doesn’t have a garage, and it is giving me mean looks. I think it is allergic to the snow. But alas, I must go places so I put all seasons on it and it hasn’t let me down so far
. I have an interesting topic for you all today, regarding driving style and the significant other.
Just to be very clear, I DO NOT condone driving above the speed limit or any reckless driving on public roads. So, if you do it, you should go to the track and get it out of your system and please don’t write about it here, because it isn’t cool to put other people in danger. I always obey the speed limits, and yes it is possible in a Porsche 911, but it is difficult, I won’t lie. Sometimes I do scream at the top of my lungs at the slow driver in front of me and go on about how they are ruining my life for not letting me drive the speed limit, and wish I had opted for the PMCRS (Porsche “Moving Chicane” Removal System) option from the factory
.
HOWEVER, there are NO limits or laws on how fast you can accelerate in order to get to the speed limit, ie. how quickly you get up to 35 mph, and there isn’t a law that says you have to take turns at a certain speed under the speed limit or that you have to even brake for turns at all. Lastly, there is no law that says how gradually you must brake when coming up to stop signs or red lights. Now, obviously you have to be careful that the loser in their Ford Explorer behind you doesn’t smash into you because they have shitty American brakes
. So that is important to keep in mind when you drive a sports car
. hehehe.
DRIVING someone mad? or being DRIVEN mad?
Does your significant other think that you:
- Always drive too fast
- Brake too hard
- Take turns unnecessarily too fast
- Often say things like: “This isn’t a race you know!!” or “You are making me nauseous, slow down!!!”
- Complain that you use an entire tank of gas in a day due to your “driving style”.
Does your significant other:
- Often not want to ride with you?
- Scream hysterically while you drive?
- Start swearing at you uncontrollably while you drive?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you might be DRIVING someone crazy
. But don’t worry, this is all normal if you are like me and you are not alone, and you might like the following video
.
Riccardo Patrese DRIVING his wife nuts
Here is my favorite all-time video of Riccardo Patrese taking his wife on a “leisurely drive around the track”
. hehe. The video is in Italian with English sub-titles. I don’t need to say anymore, the video speaks for itself, hehe
.

Hi Izabel
Great post!
I love the PMCRS (Porsche “Moving Chicane” Removal System) option!!! LOL
I confess, I am in the category of driving too fast all the time, at the chagrin of my passengers usually. And I never give up a chance to go sideways in the rain
. I must be part rally driver
. I try to be sensitive to my passengers needs, but I just can’t help it sometimes
. I don’t break speed limits, simply because I got sick and tired of getting speeding tickets. Around where I live, tickets are a great way to create revenue generation for the local government. I do like to take turns fast, and trail brake when I can, and heel toe downshift at every opportunity
. Sadly, I’m not afforded these luxuries in traffic
. I am a safe driver, but I do like to drive in a spirited manner
. After driving at the track for a while, there’s no fun I can have on public roads that is worth the inherent risk…
Great stuff!
Nazmul.
LOL, PMCRS. They should have that for every brand. Now, normally I love seeing a BMW while on the road (of course I would rather be driving them but ok, looking at them is usually pretty ok too) but today…….
just today I had the misfortune of being stuck behind the only BMW in the ENTIRE COUNTRY, maybe even all of Europe, that was being driven by someone who thought that my entire way home was a 30 km/h zone….
and of course being on a “quick” backroad to avoid traffic in my city there was no room to overtake this man.
Well not without running the risk of piledriving my car into a streetcar named “desire to scream this mans ear off about his driving” Well, there actually was a streetcar (called tram in the Netherlands, they look like this and I’m sure I would have lost the battle from that one.
Anyway, I almost tasted my steering wheel….
Now, to be completely honest, I usually only frustrate about slow drivers when I’m alone in the car. When I have passengers I tend to drive a bit more relaxed and limit my roadrage to sighs and “oh come on”, “it isn’t going to get any greener”
Aww I hear ya Vincent. I too take back roads to work and back, they are only 35mph though but it never fails that some moron is going UNDER the speed limit. I mean how can you go slower than 35…I don’t even need to go to 3rd
. I am glad you didnt road rage him too bad and hurt yourself, we would all be sad if something happened to you. I think a better choice would be for you to have some missiles installed on your car and then a protective force field to shield yourself from the impending explosion of the car in front of you. I think that would work, just a thought though. I am guessing you would have to go after market for that kinda stuff tho..I know a guy actually, his name is Q, hehehehe.
I would imagine you would have to tell your wife “you are going to see a man about a horse” or something when you go consult with this aftermarket “specialist” about this type of thing, I dont think she would approve…
I meant to say that the streetcars look like this.
Wow, I’m glad you didn’t have a collision with a streetcar! That definitely has the mass advantage
.
A few years ago, I was looking for a pristine BMW M Roadster. All of the cars I found in Atlanta were rough or with high miles. I finally found a car 300 miles away; and a doctor was selling it. The car was perfect. BMW Z3 M Roadster with no dings, no paintwork… it had never been in the rain! 20k miles… Bought it.
A month later, I was at a neighborhood cookout when one of the ladies (Mandy) asked if she could have a ride in our new car. My wife said she could take her for a drive. While they were out, Mandy asked my wife if she could drive instead….
My wife asked – can you drive a stick shift? …Oh sure, I had a Prelude back in college. So…. Mandy jumped into the driver seat.
I think Mandy brought the RPMs up to about 5k, then dropped the clutch, which sent the car rocketing with tires smoking (no limited slip on this model). The car shot forward about 20 feet before slamming into a square curb, breaking out portions of the undercarriage and spoiler. I was out of ear shot of this accident, and several minutes later, I saw the two of them pull up next to the curb to park the car. I couldn’t see any damage from where I was standing on an elevated deck. Mandy immediately left, and drove her own car home. We hadn’t eaten yet, and I couldn’t figure out why she left so early… When I asked my wife where Mandy went – she said that she had to go home….
Later that day, when driving the one-mile trek home, I heard something rattling. I though to myself, what the heck is going on? This car is perfect! What’s that noise?
I didn’t learn about the incident until three days later….
A week later, I got the car repaired and sold it.
ouch, I don’t mean to pry but are you and your wife still together? She didn’t tell you what happened? shame on her……
Jim,
Welcome to Drivelikeagirl!! Thanks so much for posting. Oh man…you didnt get to enjoy your car very long…wow. Was this the Z3 or the Z4 M roadster? Perhaps you can get a new one, or a used Z4M? What did you say to your wife? Did you get mad at her? I have learned not to ever let ppl drive though they say they can drive it and even if they say they have track experience, usually those people that try to convince you they drive well are the insanest of them all
.
Izabel
Ouch! Sorry to hear about the wrecked M Roadster! Wow. The way in which the damage was done was quite damaging as well!
.
Regarding the video of Riccardo, what did you guys think? Do you think she was enjoying the drive at all? She seemed to be laughing while swearing and he seemed to be enjoying her screams, lol. I have seen people truly petrified while at the track before and she didn’t look petrified. I want a race car driver husband
.
Well, I liked the movie. I’m sure they both enjoyed the drive……right?
Anyway, I had a chance to drive (along in) a BMW Z8 (4.9L V8 with 400 Bhp). The car was driven by a guy from the administration at a BMW dealer where we had a clubmeeting of our BMW Coupé club. The guy from the administration happened to have a racing license…..
He took us for a drive along the local secondary roads (max speed 80 kmh). We went into a curve that I would normally take at 60 kmh at the most and only if I was alone in the car. He went into it with 100kmh, came out at 120 and accellerating. A Benz in the distance went from a small dot to a big silver star in seconds and then he went full on the brakes.
Of course, no Vincents were hurt during this experiment.
This man knew what he was doing and obviously knew the limits (if any) of this car. What a thrill!!!
Oh, did I mention that his thumb and indexfinger of his shifting hand were taped together because he had strained a muscle the day before…. LOL
Yes I think they both enjoyed it
.
Very cool story, wow, I wish you could have gotten it on video, hehe. I LOVE the Z8, and I mean LOVE. I just want to sit and stare it all day, it is gorgeous. I have never driven one, ridden in one, or even sat in one, you are SO lucky and OF COURSE I am glad no Vincent’s were hurt during your adventure
hehe.
Glad to hear no Vincents were hurt in this experiment

I used to have an E36 M3 a long time ago, that I was trying to sell. It was a beautiful car. I posted the car for sale in the newspaper, and someone was interested in test driving the car… I was wary to let someone else behind the wheel of my car, but I figured, I must in order to sell it. This person was also a PCA Club Racer, so I figured they knew what they were doing. Boy was I wrong! We went for a drive on some windy mountain roads, and the speeds kept getting higher… and to make a long story short, this Club Racer took my M3, with me in it as a passenger, into a nice ditch! Total sideways action… into a ditch! Surprisingly I wasn’t mad… I was elated to be alive! The M3 was badly damaged though
.
Nazmul.
Did the guy end up paying for the damages (or buying the car)?
Hi Vincent
The guy wasn’t interested in the car after damaging it. He did end up paying for the damages, but only after things got ugly (insurance claims, etc).
Nazmul.
Not on public streets! I drive like Michael Schumacher on the track, but I try to restrain myself on public roads, especially after a traffic accicent I had last year.
However…….when I see a fun off/on ramp, or empty industrial lot………….
Hi Sam
Welcome to the DLG community. I hope you or no one else got hurt in the accident. Empty parking lots are loads of fun!
Ahhh, the smell of burnt rubber
.
Take care
Nazmul.
I have a tendency to late-apex corners, use all of my lane, match revs(heel/toe) every shift, and slow down as little as possible for corners… But I wouldn’t call it “crazy”…
Hi Stephen
Welcome to the DLG community
. LOL, that’s not crazy at all… that’s just efficient driving
. Do you get complaints from passengers when you drive that way, or do they tend to be cool with it?
Nice hummingbird pics on your blog, very cool
.
Are you a track junkie? If so, what tracks have you driven on, and what do you drive?
Take care
Nazmul.
