Porsche goes Sci-Fi

Have you heard about Porsche’s new museum in Stuttgart?

New Porsche Museum in Stuttgart

It has opened recently and I kinda think it looks like something from Star Trek or Battlestar Gallactica, hehe. Kindna sci-fi to me, but I consider that to be a good thing :) . The first Porsche museum was opened in 1974 in Zuffenhausen. Here is a link to Autoblog’a article about the opening of the new museum.

Best of all, here is a link to Autoblog’s gallery of pics from the museum. This will give you a preview of all the goodness inside.

Has anyone been?

Has any one been to the old or new Porsche museum? Any plans to go? Have you been to any other car museum or watch factory before? If so, please share your stories and pics with us.

The Design

Also, what do you think of the design of the building? Is it the awesome-est thing ever or too strange for your taste? Personally, I LOVE it, and not just because I am a Porsche fan-boy/fan-girl :) .

Hopefully, in the VERY near future I will make it over to the fatherland soon and see the museum and perhaps take deilvey of a new Porsche, hehe.

I’ve twice been to the old museum; during the most recent visit I toured the factory and saw the new museum under construction. The old Museum could display maybe a dozen cars simultaneously, and I recall hearing that Porsche has many, many more in storage. I have been to other auto museums in Europe, including BMW, Ferrari, Horch, and Mercedes. The Mercedes museum is truly spectacular. I’m looking forward to seeing the new Porsche museum.

    Hey Izabel,

I’m planning on going there within the next couple of weeks. Since I live in the Netherlands, reaching Stuttgart shouldn’t take me more than 8 hours driving (or more, depending on the state of mind of my ex -californian ‘72 914 :-) . Ofcourse you’re welcome to come along, if you don’t mind ’seventies-speeds’ on Germany’s autobahns. And flying to Amsterdam ofcourse.

    Hi Jaap,

I am unfortunately not planning on a trip to the Netherlands any time soon but I appreciate the offer. I would LOVE to go to Germany, and I plan to!!! Maybe I will ever move there and live there a few years :) .
Please let me know how the trip goes and feel free to post pics and stories on Drivelikeagirl!! We would LOVE to hear about the trip.

That is a crazy awesome building :) . Porsche makes enough to become the single largest majority shareholder in VW and then buy its own shares back :) . They rock :) . I have a new found respect for how this company does business. They used to be giant killers in racing, and now they are giant killers in business! :)
