BMW MyInfo
BMW has partnered with Google to bring you Google Maps integrated into the new nav systems; they call this MyInfo; there’s a video on this this link that shows how it all works. For example: you can lookup and address or business on Google Maps while sitting in your house, and when you find where you want to go you can send it to your BMW nav system wirelessly. Then, when you get into your car, the nav system automatically routes you there, no need to enter the address in.
Here’s what it looks like in Google Maps:

When using nav systems, I find that typing in an address or doing a search before driving off is a hassle… which this eliminates. Also if you have a decent mobile web browser, you can perform this on your mobile device, if you don’t have your laptop/desktop nearby. So, for example, you can use your iPhone while sitting in your car, to do a Google search of a cool restaurant, and then send the address to the nav system and then just go!

MB SplitView
Another new technology update can be found in the 2010 S Class, which is always a showcase of new technology by MB. They always raise the bar whenever they release a new S Class, and this next one won’t be an exception. MB has partnered with Bosch to bring the SplitView system to their S Class sedans. It’s an LCD panel in the center console of the car, and the big deal with it is that the driver and passenger see completely different images! It’s like having 2 screens in one. Depending on the viewing angle you will be able to see one image vs. the other. You can read all about it here. So, this way, the driver can look at the nav system while the passenger secretly watches porn, LOL
, or perhaps just a regular movie…it is up to you really . Pretty awesome, huh? Does this (the SplitView, not the porn watching) make you want to go out and buy and S Class??
. I am going to go test drive one as soon as they come out, and I will try to include an update to this post once I see it for real.

Maybe I’m just a purist, but I don’t like getting sat nav systems in my driving cars (m3, etc.). I have one in my SUV (mostly because people who visit me use that).
I have this little ritual where, right before I take off, I’m either at a computer or on my phone making sure I know exactly where I’m going (and to check traffic, weather, etc.). I get in the car, get her running, get the music / phone setup the way it needs to be (perhaps a separate conversation about car playlists would be appropriate?)… and then I’m off, focused on the driving, on the route, on the rhythm of the “chase”…
Hi Sul,
Driving rituals are cool
. When I had my 996 C2, I replaced the stock exhaust with muffler bypass pipes from Fabspeed. It made my car sound like a Cup car
. My ritual was to turn off everything (cell phone, radio, etc), start up the car, and keep the revs high to listen to the beautiful music being made by the engine
.
Take care
Nazmul.
Hi Sul,
I have to disagree about the nav system
If i dont have nav i will get lost in like 5 seconds. Where i live, i take the Nav system to go anywhere ive never been before even if its 5 mins from my house. I could never learn all the roads around here, so i dont even try. I love having my gps tell me turn by turn where to go etc. I cant live without it.
Now if i am going somewhere i know, i do like to make sure i have in a good cd before i pull out of the parkinglot. I listen to the music so loud i am not sure why im not deaf yet. I mean i like it REALLY loud, and i think that makes me drive faster so if i need to go like 35 i have to turn it down
i usually never can hear my phone ring either, no matter how i have it set
hehe.
I definitely think a post on driving music is needed
